Day 9 - Slamming the Boards!!!!!!!!!!!

"Slamming the Boards" I thought that a very bizzare phrase when I first saw it...... The first thing I wonder after having a look at it is do these librarians answer these questions on the answer boards during work, or is it their hobby that they do this in their own time? Maybe no body else cares about this but me? But its got me curious, Because a) I wouldn't have the time to do this at work and b) i am suspisous it means I have to create another account c) When I am home from work I would like to take a break from all the queries and give my brain a rest.......

Maybe I could take a poll online to find out?? in my spare time :)

As I write though I do think if your job was an online reference librarian, I think it would be quite ok, to promote Librarians out in the wide world and answer someone's questions. - but they might be better directed to our public catloague site so the stats get recorded :)

However, does anyone worry about the fact they might end up in a law suit because someone reckons they were told the wrong answer, ( AM i being a Worry Wart, Going to the extreme!!!! I mean while I was looking - I didn't see a disclaimer that says personal oppionin and its your responsibility to evaluate the answer etc.

I guess some of the librarians did provide more than one source for the information they were giving so thats a good thing!

But what about people answering questions and saying they are librarians when their not? Would anyone do that??? Does it matter??? maybe only if they answer questions really badly...........

Who knows, I certainly don't!!!

Anyway, I do think it would be great for our library customers to rate our books, dvds whatever - Give people a chance to say why they liked or didn't like a book, Hmmmm perhaps we should let our customers rate on line after our computer training sessions and if they have found it good this might encourage other people to attend........... I guess the scary thing is that there are some scary customers out their who we probably don't need or want their comments..... and if its negative feedback and not constructive does that put a bad light on our services which we don't want. But maybe the ratings and reviews could be monitored - although who would have the time to do this... unless it was a specfic role for someone.

Anyway yes its all food for thought. speaking of which thats too much thought processes for one day.........

Did I mention that I am flat out keeping track of the real world let alone spending sooo much time in the online world...... responding to Facebook friends, blogging etc etc ahhhhhh how to divide my time according........

15 min a day................. hmmm I guess I am spending too much time blogging or looking at things to try and understand them..... yes 15 min a day if you can take it all in but for little ol me.... I certainly need more time to let it all sink in...........
